Fed: Crean says he'd prefer to debate laws together
Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN says he'd prefer to debate plans to allow embryonic stemcell research and ban human cloning as one new law -- not split them for a vote.
Moves are afoot in the federal parliament to split the bill.
In its current form, MPs voting against embryonic stem cell research will be in effectvoting for human cloning.
Mr CREAN says while he has an open mind on the splitting process, he'd prefer the billremain intact.
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD introduced the bill in June following an agreement betweenthe commonwealth, states and territories in April.
